dearly beloved,
as you all know, to go to a concert/gig/fancyshow nowadays you have to hawk your organs on the black market to be able to afford a seat in the back row. however, ticketek now gives you reward dollars that you can exchange for tickets if you do surveys for them and such.

SO!!!! being impoverished and shameless, i'm going to ask any of my blog readers (yes, all 3 of you) to please click on this link so that you will help me earn points. and thereafter earn points for yourself also. bear in mind you have to be an australian resident/citizen to do so. and also i will love you forever if you help me.

so you see, it's really all about you.

i'll put a permanent link on the side bar o'er yonder too >>

OK!

thanks guys very muchly,
lynette

in case you didn't already know, there are significant differences between world of warcraft and real life.

one of these differences is that in wow, you can carry up to 5 bags on your person, each bag with the capacity to carry up to 20 different items. for convenience sake, these are "stacked", meaning you can carry up to 10, 20, sometimes 50 of each one.

let me do the maths for you (ooh! she's doing maths!):

say you have four 20-slot bags* and the one 16-slot default backpack you get, that's
(4 x 20 x 20) + (16 x 20) = 1920

wow bags are crazy

can you imagine carrying 1920 assorted items ranging from gorilla giblets to boar tusks to potions to severed heads of trolls and ogres in your backpack?? and to add to the sheer terror of doing this, you have to navigate entire continents on foot.

cut to real life, (royal) we had to carry a laptop on one shoulder and a bag of books on the other while navigating our way between 3 libraries on campus and already our motivation is flagging.

* as you can see in this photo, one of these bags has 28 slots. this is because warlocks have a bag just for storing soulstones. can you imagine hauling 28 solidified souls with you everywhere you went? to me that is the height of insanity.
the easter photos are up! there's not many. just a few. enough for you to get a gist of what happened. nobody has time to take that many photos when they're eating

so zoot and i woke up at 7.15 (ok maybe 7.20) yesterday to catch the 8.20 train to st. james to go to st. mary's cathedral for easter mass at 9. we got there at 9 on the dot and lots of people were standing around, mostly because whole sections of pews were under renovation for world youth day (114 days left! proclaims the digital countdown outside).

so anyway, one of the greeters greets us with a very gloomy "happy easter" (zero eye contact), gives us each a sheet of paper and and promptly forgets we exist. then we head into the church and oh they're singing! but oh it's in latin. then zoot points out that it's not a choir we've got going on here but the st. mary's singers, performing a repertoire consisting of mozart, haydn, aichinger and ley compositions. great. we give it 8 points out of a possible 10 for the wankiest mass we've ever been to.

after mass some serious questions were raised. why were the choir (sorry, singers) and altar servers wearing black? why wasn't anyone celebrating? jesus is meant to be risen, not dead again. we all know catholics do very good funerals but they really shouldn't apply that same skill to every single occasion.

on a more chipper note, the ends of the arches at church were decorated with the decapitated heads of saint, which i thought was really fun.

anyway, these (semi-lapsed) catholics came home for some proper easter feasting. we baked pizzas and had beer and ate lots and lots of chocolate.

i demand an explanation!!

indignant and doubtful that we are friends,

zoot's birthday continues

here's some pictures of the bakery. they're kind of fuzzy because i'd really rather be dancing to them than taking pictures of them. every time they perform there's a theme, and friday night's theme was "ladies" so they were all dressed as ladies.

the trumpeter is still cute and bonnie knows someone who knows him so she spoke to him! i envy her bold-ness.

the bakery!

thanks to auntie pratma for the heads up on this song he heard on RTFM. click the link for lyrics to sing along with

and in the spirit of educating the masses, click here to read up on the lady whom this song's about

a day of many firsts

it is zoot's birthday! which makes it the first birthday to be celebrated at castle anthrax.
happy birthday zoot
in truth, there is no party at castle anthrax tonight because her manfriend is taking her out for dinner. there will however be dining and dancing tomorrow. the bakery are playing at candy's apartment at king's cross tomorrow, which is in itself an excellent present for a girlie.

also, today marks the first time ever that i picked up a cockroach - albeit with many layers of paper - and threw it in the bin, with nary a whimper or shriek.

also also, i actually printed out my theory readings and i've started reading them. that's right folks. for the first time in all my years of archi-school i plan to critically read my prescribed theory readings and try to participate in class.

sondha came to visit for a most decadent 4 days this weekend. friday to sunday were spent eating almost constantly, and then monday was spent rushing out 3 lasagnes before zooming to the airport (where she then stood in line and hastily purchased a box of donuts) and hastily boarding the plane (bye guys! hug hug! thanks for a fantastic weekend!) so she could get home, rest and go to school at 8 on tuesday.

THEN TODAY, we had a site visit up at the hawkesbury river where everyone in our studio was steadily and mercilessly burnt by the sun that was supposed to be shielded by clouds (bureau of meteorology, you lie!) but was not. piddy de foos who rocked up in long sleeves. their arms weren't burnt but i'm pretty sure they were basting in their own perspiration on that 2 hour cruise-followed-by-45 minute walk.

hello, i'd like some graffiti please.

tsk . vandals !

Monday, March 03, 2008

so! things that have happened since i last last last posted, not counting the two-sentence posts:

1. zoot and i are finally moved in together!

2. mum came to visit and we visited a few touristy places in sydney like the botanic gardens and the aquarium. but mostly she helped with home setting up-ness which was greatly appreciated. then she left on saturday and there was plenty of sniffling and sunglasses-wearing.

3. we went to mardi gras and it was spectacular!! the costumes and floats were pretty amazing and the atmosphere was really festive and we got a pretty decent spot upon which to perch and view the parade. pictures are on someone else's camera so i'll get those and upload them. may i not be lynched for saying this too but i didn't understand some of it. particularly the need to emphasize the gay-ness of certain things. like gay ten-pin bowlers and gay soccer referees. how do they differ from normal ten-pin bowlers and soccer referees? it's like how at mardi gras fair a few weeks ago there was the lesbian choir. isn't a lesbian choir just a women's choir?

4. uni started today! mondays and tuesdays are really intense (do we really need 6 contact hours for advanced technologies?), wednesdays and thursdays are empty for now and may they stay that way. fridays are light. it seems i've done some of the readings before for the theory unit, and advanced technologies deals with wide-span structures which we've done in 3rd year as well at uwa. maybe i will do well here! just because it's semi-familiar material. friends-wise everyone seems to know everyone else and there are only 4 noobs including myself, so hopefully that situation improves soon.

5. sondha arrives on friday so that'll be fun and there'll probably be a huge cook-up! yay.

6. they sell mogu mogu lychee drink with nata de coco at the faculty cafe. DOUBLE YAY!
