today while shamelessly reading the new paper (yes yes i know this doubles the shame) over someone's shoulder, i spied this headline that read "when asked how he wanted to be remembered, MM lee replied "i am who i am".
then i thought "hold up a sec. this sounds really familiar...where have i heard this phrase before?" and it took the entire journey to work for me to realize that it was a biblical phrase!! admittedly i first thought it was jesus' reply to caiaphas when asked "are you the king of the jews", after which he was promptly slapped.
but then i was informed by the motherness that my biblical knowledge is shoddy, and that jesus had actually replied "i am who you say i am". okay fine so he didn't compare himself to jesus. but then mother texted "exodus 3:14. moses asks God what His name is and God replied 'i am who i am' "
so essentially he just compared himself to God and in a completely unoriginal way to boot! heck? dude needs a new epitaph.
and anyway his reply didn't really answer the question!
"sir, how do you want to be remembered?"
[darth vader-esque gravitas] "i am .... who i am ...."
um ... kaaaaay ....
i guess if he had replied "i want people to remember that i was who i was" it wouldn't quite have the same ring to it. but hey it's okay! you can't beat God at witty retorts, even if you are minister mentor.
and since i spent quite some time typing this, it's now national day! HUZZAH! happy national day to all you quitters and non-quitters out there!
though non-quitters have the luxury of a public holiday + a super long weekend if they take friday off, quitters have the luxury of not worrying about their children will commit suicide due to psle stress or that they'll have to sell a kidney on the black market to buy a new car!
