first of all, happy birthday to muh baby sistuh lingling!

meatpie babes forever!

next up, winky and i went to a filmfest movie called the last man (le dernier homme). the movie synopsis says:
"Beirut is a city scarred by repeated wars. Now, its citizens awake each morning to a new, even more insidious horror a serial killer whose victims are found emptied of their blood. Khalil, a 40-year-old doctor, is notonly aware of this, but finds disturbing links that bind him to the predator and to the victims. Ghassan Salhab's third feature film is an aptly timed metaphor for the internal wounds of a country still healing from the Israeli-Lebanon conflict last year, known in Lebanon as the July War. Starring Carlos Chahine and Zeina Layoun."

in real-people speak, what this translates to is:
"you will spend 5 minutes watching a lady in black dance like a marionette to imaginary music. sometimes she will clap her hands. then it will cut to some underwater scenes. then you will spend the next 97 minutes watching the camera focusing on various people and places. mostly the doctor's chiselled features or what he sees out the windscreen of his car. sometimes people will talk, sometimes there will be ambient noise, but mostly it's silence. you will spend these moments wondering when the climax of the movie is, and hoping it will get better. then it will end."

winky says: next time we'll just watch paint dry
lynnie loo says: that was draining*

* vampire-ish theme / draining geddit? harhar. *ba dum psh*

and now, the moment of truth. the answer to yesterday's mystery picture revealed. the porcelain bowl is a .... [drum roll please]

MOP CLEANER !!!

or so i've been told. at first i too thought it was a bidet, but this isn't possible for two reasons:
1. there is a flush button in the wall so the water doesn't spray in the direction of your butt, as flush down like a urinal.
2. it's smack bang in the middle of the entrance to the toilet, unhindered by walls or a cubicle.

as it turns out, the cleaning lady sticks a mop into the bowl and presses the flush button which rinses out the mop. how bizarre.

thank you to all who participated in this quiz. unfortunately, nobody gets lollies in the mail.

it's been awhile, but yes! i have a small photo update.

this was taken at a construction site near st pat's. i think you can draw your own conclusions about how this company's name came about:
lian beng

and found at the giant supermarket at vivocity:
everyone loves BuBees!
i'd buy this just to fill it with milk.

then recently, i was coerced into going to amk hub. ang mo kio is far from home, but i got some neat photos!
this shop is ..
i think this is corny, but mun thinks it's the best shop-name ever. i personally feel that the punnery would be more effective if the shop attendant wasn't an ah lian who probably pronounces the proper word as "cat-ee-vay-teeng" all the time anyway. the fashion wasn't so cat-ivating, but the name of the place surely is!

finally, the photo that zoot insisted i take,:
seen in the *female* toilet at AMKhub

it was in the girls' toilet at amk hub. guess what it is, and if you get it right, you'll get lollies in the mail!

just fyi, just as i whipped out my phone to take a picture of this, a whole mob of amk hubbers swamped the toilet and i felt really embarrassed so i just pretended i was sms-ing and high-tailed out of the toilet. but for the love of blogging and zoot's goading, i gave it a second shot and took my first photo of something in a public toilet.

the reason my mobile bill sky-rockets every month is sms "conversations" like this one* ...

stoo: did you know our mothers used to get their hair done by the fantastically-named miss chew la la?
me: that is quite funny. for real?
stoo: for serious. i think if your parents ever have another child you should canvas for it to be called "loo la la"
me: first name "lulu". so it's lulu loo lala. but everytime you say it, you have to sing it to a tune
stoo: and that tune can only be that chipmunk song with the walla walla bing bang
me: it is a fantastico idea. i'm actually wishing my mother is pregnant right now

* reproduced as faithfully as i can, since my scatterbrained self cleared out my sms inbox.
